BPP RNDAs /RPLs and specific clinical skills relating to the NMC Future Nurse Proficiencies (FNP) - Please Click Here for Details
For BPP RNDAs / RPLs, opportunities for you to practice these skills will take place in Part 2 and Part 3 of your nurse degree programme whilst on a practice placement as detailed below. In order to be ready to practice these skills in the relevant part of your programme please ensure that you have completed the relevant training. You will need to evidence your knowledge (theory and simulated practice) when on placement to your practice assessor / practice supervisors so that if the opportunity arises you can safely demonstrate a particular FNP skill under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional who is, themselves, competent in this skill. This will be recorded in your PAD / clinical skills verification document.
Skills should be demonstrated in practice and if unable to achieve in the clinical environment, please liaise with BPP University so that you can organise to complete this within simulated learning. There will also be some situations where a professional conversation with your practice assessor will be acceptable.
Part 2
Venepuncture
Canulation
NG insertion and management.
Part 3
Catheterisation (male)
IV administration and Pumps.
Please refer to this document for details of how you access training for some specific clinical skills relating to the NMC Future Nurse Proficiencies.
To enhance your learning around some of these skills you are also required to access Clinical.Skills.net on the intranet and complete the relevant topics.
Please note: the primary purpose of this training is to support your nurse degree requirements to allow you, if the opportunity arises, to demonstrate safe practice, it does not deem you ‘competent’. However, depending on where you are employed, your Clinical Matron may also wish for you to use some of these skills (specifically canulation, venepuncture and male catheterisation) in your HCSW role. Please discuss with your Clinical Matron as if this is the case, you will need to complete HHFT training as there will be competencies you will need to acquire / be signed off for when in your HCSW role.
If you have any queries please contact the learning environment team who will be happy to advise.
