In order to park at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you will need to have a valid parking permit.

Winchester

For Nursing and AHP students

If you are working shifts which start before 07:00 or finish after 20:00, you are working in the community or you have a disability that affects mobility. You will be able to apply for a Trust Parking Permit that will allow you to park in the Staff car parks.

If, however, you are working in Winchester and your shift starts after this time e.g., if your placement is in the outpatients dept, or physiotherapy dept. You will not be able to park on-site and will need to use the Park and Ride facility. Please use the link below for more information.

www.winchesterparkandride.co.uk

Parking at the Park and Ride is available for HHFT staff and students on placement through the RingGo App, which can be found on the app store.

Basingstoke and Andover

If your placement is in Basingstoke or Andover, you can park in the designated staff parking areas on site, as long as you have a parking permit – this follows the same rules as the Winchester site carparking, although you can also gain one if you live more than half a mile from the perimeter of the site.

You will receive an email from the LearningEnvironment@hhft.nhs.uk with information about how to request a parking permit.

Minibus

There is a minibus that runs between the Winchester and Basingstoke sites, which runs on weekdays (excluding bank holidays, it does not run on weekends).

BPP University:

Annual leave over the Christmas period.

Guidance regarding Christmas leave will be different for each of the cohorts, therefore you need to refer to your specific BPP timetables as the requirements will be different depending on your programme over the Christmas period.

Trust requirements, however, are such that the BPP nursing apprentice must continue with their HCSW hours over the Christmas period (for full-time staff this will be 15 hours per week for RNDAs and 12.5 for FDNAs). Any annual leave from these HCSW hours must be discussed and agreed by your clinical matron / line manager on an individual basis.

Please be flexible with your HCSW hours over the Christmas period to support your clinical area.

Winchester University:

Although the University of Winchester have recommended that you take annual leave over the Christmas period because you do not have any academic hours timetabled, Trust requirements are such that the a maximum of one week’s leave can be taken over this period. Any leave allowed over and above this would only be agreed with your line manager in exceptional circumstances.

For other clinical staff in your teams, the guidelines may not allow for any leave to be taken over Christmas but we recognise that there are few opportunities for you to take leave without missing important academic work, other than during the University holidays. We want to enable you to rest so that you stay well and we also want to support you to keep up with the demands of your apprenticeship.

We do however ask you to be flexible with your HCSW hours over the Christmas period to support your clinical area and to ensure that we can continue to provide high quality care for our patients.

Health Education England have just launched their brand new nursing, midwifery and trainee nursing associate student hub. Created in collaboration with students, this hub informs students about resources available to you, how you access support and allows you to see the study journeys of their peers.

The NMC have recently updated their Standards for Supervision and Assessment (SSSA) Supporting Information Hub to improve its user accessibility, and to account for recent changes to their post-registration and education programme standards.

Dear Student/Apprentice,

Please find attached upcoming dates for future ward accreditation visits by date and site. We would like to encourage you to take the opportunity to participate in at least one of these as part of your HHFT learning experience.

Please make it clear that you are a student or apprentice so that you will be partnered with someone on the day.

This process looks at a variety of aspects within an area or ward and includes direct observation, discussions with patients and staff and review of documentation.

You will find out on the day exactly what area you will be visiting and there is a pre-meeting to agree which aspects each person is reviewing, the visit itself and then a post meeting to discuss the findings.

Ward Accreditation is all about quality and standards of care and is a really good way of experiencing what CQC inspectors look at when they visit, as well as giving you the opportunity to ‘see’ an area in a different way.

Please be proactive in choosing a date and informing the Ward Accreditation team by responding to the attached email that you wish to get involved. Please let your placement area know once a date has been confirmed, so they are aware.

If you have any questions, or would like to express your interest in joining the ward accreditation, please email: WardAccreditation@hhft.nhs.uk.
