The Department of Health (2012) define Preceptorship as 'a period of structured transition for the newly registered practitioner during which he or she will be supported by a Preceptor, to develop thier confidence as an autonomous professional, refine skills, values and behaviours and to continue on their journey of lifelong learning'.
HHFT provides a 12 month Preceptorship Programme for all staff who are newly qualified, returning to practice or Internationally educated practitioners who are in their first year or working in clinical practice.
The Programme offers support, guidance and advice for the preceptee alongside a structured programme of learning. It encourages safe, learning environment for new staff.
The Programme provides a mix of delivered educational days, self directed days and flexibilty to negotiate learning / educational activities that are related to your role with your preceptor / line manager.
It provides a structure transition from student to registrant, allowing preceptees to consolidate their skills and knowledge, develop new skills as required by their job descriptions, department needs as well as those defined by govering bodies such as the NMC and HCPC.
The programme aims to continue the lifelong learning process from the point of registration and onwards as staff gain experience within their professions.
The programme is delivered by specialists in their areas, ensuring attendees receive current evidence based knowledge provided by experts in each field of expertise.
