Work experience options at HHFT - onsite and virtual.
We accept applications through our Friends and Family pathway. This allows HHFT staff to support friends and family members to undertake onsite work experience under their guidance. It is essential that when using this pathway all relevant forms are completed alongside the appropriate risk assessment forms. Please do not allow anyone on site who has not been registered. Once the initial application forms have been completed, further guidance will be provided on the next steps. If using the Friends and Family pathway the young persons are to be supported and monitored by the staff member who has requested the placement. As such the staff member needs to ensure the appropriateness of the placement in respect to the young person. Basic guidance states that for clinical placements young people need to be 16+ and 15+ for non-Clinical. The young person must be always supervised as they will not be subjected to any formal checks such as DBS. For application forms or other queries, please email WorkExperience@hhft.nhs.uk
We are now accepting applications from Schools and Colleges within our catchment area. Details on the structure of this programme, with application information, has been communicated to schools and colleges. If you are a local school or college who has not received this information, please contact WorkExperience@hhft.nhs.uk. We will have limited number of placements and as such will continue to offer a blended programme to include online options as well as face-to-face experiences. All applications must come through the Schools and Colleges, not on an individual basis. Career departments will have all relevant and up to date information on application processes and closing dates.
In November 2022 we are piloting the first of 6 Work Experience Insight days offering a fully immersive programme of events, to include HHFT staff speakers, quizzes, hospital tour and hands on workshops. Details of how to apply will be sent to school and college career leads. Or you contact WorkExperience@hhft.nhs.uk. The programme will be for schools and college students.
We still have an online work experience option. This programme currently runs on a rolling basis, allowing access 24/7. Simply scan the QR code in the poster. The Programme can then be completed in the student’s own time. Full completion of all modules will allow them to receive certification which can be used for UCAS applications as evidence of work-based learning.

We continue to liaise closely with our local community to develop relevant and accessible insights into the NHS and HHFT to attract our workforce of the future. This includes continuing development of our range of apprenticeships, traineeships, engagement with the recent government-funded Kickstart scheme along with our LLD internship Programme, Project Choice. Several videos have been developed with funding from HEE covering the HCSW role, Admin & Clerical roles, and Facilities, which are viewable on YouTube.

We are now in the process of working with local colleges in supporting the new T Levels to begin in 2023.
As placements are at a premium we encourage young people to consider volunteering as an option. Please email Volunteers@hhft.nhs.uk for further information on our volunteer programme.
We want to assure you that we are working hard to offer young people in our community support and guidance in their pursuit of a career within the NHS. We are very grateful for the support we have had from staff within the trust who have agreed to be filmed or have supported webinars and podcasts. We look forward to inviting young people back into the Trust in the development of our future workforce. If as a staff member or department you would like to support us in offering placements for local young people, please contact us.
