PCA, Epidural and Local Anaesthetic Pump Refresher e-Learning

Registered nurses & ODPs working in theatres, critical care or a surgical ward, who are competent in the administration on IV medications are required to attend PCA training or the Acute Pain Study Day (if your clinical area also involves the management of local anaesthetic infusions, epidural infusions and/or low dose ketamine infusions).

PCA training can be booked via Green Brain.

To book a place on the Acute pain study day please contact either:

  • Samantha May samantha.may@hhft.nhs.uk for study days in Basingstoke.
  • Sonia Rushby sonia.rushby@hhft.nhs.uk for study days in Winchester.

Refresher training is required every 2 years.

You now have the option of completing your refresher training in one of the followings ways:

  • Face-to-face with the superuser for your ward/department.
  • By attending one of the face-to-face PCA, epidural and local anaesthetic infusion refresher training session (booked via Green Brain).
  • By completing the relevant Pump refresher eLearning modules that are now available on Green Brain.

You need to complete the module(s) for the pumps that you use in your clinical practice.

For example, if you work in an area that accepts patients with:

  • PCA, epidurals & local anaesthetic infusions then you need to complete all 3 modules.
  • PCA and local anaesthetics then you need to complete the Bodyguard 595 regional analgesia infusion pump & PCA pump refresher e-Learning.
  • A PCA, then you only need to complete the PCA pump refresher training.
