Who should attend
This training is for registered nurses who are trust IV trained and work in clinical environments where PCAs are used
Please do NOT book this training if your clinical area also involves the management of local anaesthetic infusions, epidural infusions and/ or low- dose ketamine infusions- you will need to attend the Acute Pain Study Day.
Course Aims/Objectives
•Be familiar with the trust’s guidelines
•Demonstrate a knowledge of how patient controlled analgesia works and understand the benefits to the patient
•Demonstrate knowledge of the specific monitoring and observations required to ensure patients safety
•Demonstrates knowledge of the side effects and complications of PCAs and how to avoid and manage them
•To achieve the PCA pump competencies
