  • All referrals should be received from Audiology
  • First appointment should be face to face (or telephone if the wait is too long)
  • BAAP (British Association of Audio-vestibular Physicians) guidelines should be followed
  • Level 1 investigations (from the BAAP guidelines?) to be completed for all children 
     

Infection screen

  • Babies referred from Newborn hearing screen
  • Try to get a Saliva swab for CMV (PCR) within 1st 3 weeks of birth
  • There is an arrangement that Audiologist will take the swab when the baby is brought for ABR (what is ABR?) ,and inform us (who?) ,so we can request test on ICE  and chase results
  • If CMV saliva swab is negative no immediate action
  • If positive referred to paediatric Virologist at southampton urgently via email &telephone
