- All referrals should be received from Audiology
- First appointment should be face to face (or telephone if the wait is too long)
- BAAP (British Association of Audiovestibular Physicians) guidelines should be followed
- Level 1 investigations (from the BAAP guidelines?) to be completed for all children
Infection screen
- Babies referred from newborn hearing screen
- Take a saliva swab for CMV (Cytomegalovirus?) (PCR) -is this the test they are using for the swab? within 1st 3 weeks of birth
- There is an arrangement that an audiologist will take the swab when the baby is brought for ABR (what is ABR?) ,and inform us (who?) ,so we can request test on ICE and chase results
- If CMV saliva swab is negative, no immediate action
- If positive, referred (refer the patient?) to the paediatric virologist at Southampton urgently via email & telephone - Dr Chrissie Jones(Christine.Jones@uhs.nhs.uk)
