FAQ's

  • How do I get access for a point of care device?

To access a point of care device you must first attend initial training, following training you will be provided with a unique barcode to access the devices in which you have been trained.

Training dates are provided in the right hand side of the webpage or contact the point of care team using contact details on the top of the page.

  • I have performed e-learning, why am I unable to access a device?

e-learning is used for re-certification of a users competency on a device, it cannot be used as an alternative to initial face to face training.  If you have not received inital face to face training you will not yet have a unique user barcode and will not be able to access the device.

Re-certification will not occur immediately after e-learning is completed as this involves a manual process and is not automatic.  Please allow a minimum of 24 hours after completion before attempting to use your barcode (this period will be longer if completed on Fri/Sat as the POCT team works Mon-Fri and receives reports the morning after completion).

Your glucose meter may only receive updated information once docked, please try docking the meter prior to attempting to use your updated barcode.

  • My barcode has stopped working, what should I do?

It has most likely been 12 months since your initial training and your competency needs to be re-assessed then your barcode will be re-activated.  For glucose and lumira devices, e-learning is available on Greenbrain.  For other devices a cascade trainer can provide you with a training update, lists of cascade trainers are available under "training documents".  Some dates are also scheduled for training updates with the POCT team and if there are several people in your department requiring an update we can hold additional sessions, please use contact details at top of page to make a request.

If your barcode is worn and no longer scanning you can get a reprint from POCT, please phone ahead and we can have this ready for collection.

  • I need to replace a consumable for the blood gas machine outside of normal hours.  I have no spares in the department, what should I do?

Outside of normal working hours Siemens can be contacted for advice.  Consumables can be retrieved from the laboratory if required.
