The Medical Resourcing Team (MRT) covers all three sites but is located in the HR department at Vickers House in Vickers Business Centre, a short walk from Basingstoke Hospital. The team is responsible for the recruitment of Consultants, Specialty and Specialist doctors, Trust Doctors, Bank Doctors and Medical staff Honorary and Clinical Attachments.

We want to ensure your recruitment and onboarding experience at HHFT runs as smoothly and successfully as possible. We provide an expert recruitment advisory and administration service and should be your first point of contact for all the recruitment related enquiries. The Hospital uses the TRAC recruitment system and a user guide is provided in our useful document section. This will provide step by step instructions to adding your vacancies and guide you at each stage of the recruiting process.

The MRT will ensure all pre-employment checks are completed. Successful applicants are required to be cleared fit to practice by our Occupational Health Team. They will also need to be cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau (DBS) at an enhanced level before starting. Internationally Recruited Doctors will need to provide evidence of right to work in the UK by providing a BRP card and Share code (issued by the home office) before we can confirm a start date.

  • The recruiting manager (RM) will draft an advert, update the Job Description, Personal Specification and Job plan on the new JD template. (in our template section) The vacancy will need to be added to Trac to get appropriate authorisations. For all medical vacancies, you will need CMO and Divisional Finance Director, Medical Director and HRBP.  Please contact the Medical Resourcing Advisor (MRA) to check availability on AAC dates (These are set in advance by the Management office. The AAC panel must have Executive Directors, Medical Director, Clinical Director, and Lead consultant from the department.
  • After the applications are shortlisted and moved to interview MRA will invite the candidates to attend AAC panel interview. The interview may be held in two stages – with optional Stakeholder panel interview where the candidates will be given a topic to prepare a 10 minute presentation. This is then followed by the AAC panel interview (45 mins). MRA will provide administrative support at interview.

  • Specialty and Specialist Doctors (SAS)

  • Once authorised the MRA will put the post out to advert. Candidates will be invited to interview subject to meeting the entry requirements as set out below. The interview panel needs to consist of the Divisional Medical and Clinical Director (MRA will NOT provide administrative support at interview.)
  • Subject to meeting the entry criteria, these doctors will be employed on a permanent contract.
  • Specialty - shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part -time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or • shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Specialist - Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

  • Trust grade doctors are employed directly by the trust and they are not a part of Health Education England training programme. There are several positions available to apply within various speciality on a fixed term contract. The doctor will gain experience in specific departments and work along with senior colleagues who will help them consolidate their knowledge and experience. After gaining sufficient experience the Trust grade doctors can be given an opportunity to move to a SAS grade.
  • Doctors who wish to join HHFT staff bank will have to send their updated CV to medicalresourcing@hhft.nhs.uk which will be reviewed by a Trust Clinical Lead / Director. Once approved the Recruitment team will then complete pre-employment checks via Trac system. The applicant should not work until the recruitment team have approved that all employment checks have been completed.
  • All Doctors whose checks are completed and who wish to participate will use the Locum Nest app, which once they download, the app will recognise them as HHFT Trust Doctor, creating a wide pool of doctors that could apply to work and cover rota gaps. HHFT is part of Digital Collaborative Staff bank which partners with 9 different trusts. While you are working with HHFT you can also work with our following partner trust and vice versa: Ashford and St Peter’s NHS FT, Dorset County Hospital, Gloucestershire Hospital, Royal Surrey NHS Hospital, Salisbury NHS FT, University Hospital Dorset NHS Foundation trust.
  • If a rota gap is identified the gap should be advertised on Locums Nest, immediately giving all Doctors the opportunity to access and apply to work the shift. The shifts will be visible to doctors who use Locums Nest outside the Trust who will also be able to register interest in the shift but will appear as either a bank share agreement doctor, or an external member of staff.
  • We issue honorary contracts to staff who are coming to work at the Trust without a paid contract. If you are Medical student or interested in pursuing career in Medicine, researcher or any other role and join us for the purpose of education and / or gaining work experience we will issue with an honorary contract.
  • This is to ensure you are bound to take proper account of the NHS ‘duty of care’ and that the Trust, in turn, discharges its own ‘duty of care’ for the individual.
  • Before you start working for our Trust you must:
    • To have an appropriate level of CRB checks if you are working in a clinical area and have access to children and vulnerable adults.
    • Undergo Health checks.
    • If you are from overseas, then you must also provide a certificate from your home country confirming you do not have any criminal records.
  • As an honorary appointee you will also be required to comply with the Trust’s policies regarding core behaviours; to comply with working practices specific to the departments and/or directorates within which they work, and to all standards relevant to their professional group.
