UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFE RECRUITMENT
  • The recruitment process should be conducted in a professional, timely manner and in compliance with all employment and safeguarding legislation and all statutory guidance.
  • DBS Checks should be completed to the correct standard - See the additional information regarding DBS in the toolbar.

  • The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 allows cautions and convictions to be considered spent after a specific amount of time. Roles we recruit for that offer support, care or work with children, young people or adults are exempt from this Act, meaning applicants must make a disclosure even if they are past the rehabilitation period.

WHAT IS SAFER RECRUITMENT?

  • Safer recruitment is a set of safe practises that support us to recruit the right people and volunteers to work with children, young people or adults.

  • Reduces the risk of harm, abuse and neglect to adults and children.

  • Everyone should be committed to the wellbeing and safety of all individuals who are considered 'at risk' at the time.

  • Managers should demonstrate and demand acceptable standards of behaviour and encourage staff to report concerns.

  • Interview Panels should be aware of the correct procedures for effective facilitation of recruitment.
