The Clinical Communication Centre provides a single point of referral for GPs to rapidly access urgent care either through Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) services or direct admissions at RHCH and BNHH.
The service aims to improve the experience for service users and patients who have been referred to hospital by enabling direct bookings into urgent care, which will hopefully reduce further unplanned attendances to the Emergency Department.
The Clinical Communication Centre currently accepts calls from the 33 GP practices in Mid and North Hampshire from 08:00-22:00 Monday-Sunday for direct admissions. Other services will be in keeping with their current operational hours.
The service has also been working closely with the Think 111 team to allow their clinicians the same access to direct admissions and same day services. This is likewise for SCAS GP expected patients to enable direct admissions.

By using this route, patients and service users will experience fewer delays and should have access to the right clinician first time. The service also aims to free up time for medical and surgical registrars who would otherwise be taking referrals from GP’s, increasing their time with face to face patient assessments.
This is a really exciting project which will hopefully expand and support other same day services.
