This service is led by the Telemedicine team with the support from senior clinical decision makers. Similar virtual wards have already been implemented in some parts of the country where it is having a positive impact in reducing emergency admissions and builds on the local RECOxCARE and national COVID Oximetry@home model previously approved by NIRB and now implemented by all CCGs.

The enhanced monitoring provided by the virtual ward gives confidence to discharging clinicians and patients that they will be safely ‘cared for’ virtually during the ‘step down’ process.

For more information on who can be referred and how can be found in the Useful links section on the right hand side of this page.  Patients should have their discharge letter in the usual way when they leave hospital and the telemedicine team will ensure ongoing communication with primary care once the patient is on the virtual ward.

The Covid Recovery virtual ward will be open 7 days a week from 08:00-20:00. Referrals will be accepted from all inpatient wards across RHCH and BNHH sites.

This is an ICP supported initiative, with primary care, HHFT, CCG and community colleagues all working together to support our patients to get the best integrated care possible.
