Falls Prevention
Delirium is very common in hospital patients, however statistics suggest that we only ever identify around 50% of cases at any one time.
Recently we have seen a rise in falls, where delirium has been identified as a contributing factor after the event. Considered a medical emergency which can often be prevented, reversal of delirium is dependent on quick recognition along with speedy identification and treatment of the cause.
To encourage more of our staff to recognise, identify the cause and prevent further incidences of delirium, we have begun rolling out the PINCH ME delirium tool. As part of this, small teachings events will be delivered, posters will be displayed, and staff will be provided with a small business card, which will remind them of the common causes of delirium.
