It has been a while since our last student coordinator forum meeting. Since our previous meeting, there have been a couple of exciting developments about student supervision and support, and we are excited to reintroduce the quarterly teams meeting.
Next meeting - Tuesday 10/09/2024 - 14:30 to 15:30 - Student Coordinators Forum Meeting - Link
The purpose of the HHFT Learning Environment team (LET) is to provide high-quality placements for our pre-registration, non-medical learners and to support them to develop the right skills, values, and behaviours so that they can deliver high quality, safe patient care. We do this in partnership with our stakeholders who include clinical teams, universities and colleges and a range of organisations in the healthcare sector.
To achieve a high standard of learning experience in practical setting the NMC as well as the royal college of nurses suggest the establishment of nominated persons who will support the provision of these nursing experiences for students in practice.
In a project conducted by Health Education England -Reducing Pre-registration Attrition and Improving Retention (RePAIR, 2018) revealed an impressive 96% of students believed they had made the right choice by studying nursing. However, the project also revealed that clinical environment culture, among other factors affected attrition rate. Thus, to reduce the rate of attrition and ensure a sustainable future workforce of nurses and non-medical health professionals the role of the learning Environment team cannot be overestimated.
With the above factors in mind, the LET believes the creation of an established student Link forum will be a useful in ensuring that learners in HHFT have the right support they need in order in to have a positive learning experience.
- To develop a network of staff interested in supporting learners in practice.
- Provide a forum to discuss issues commonly encountered by pre-registration non-medical learners in HHFT.
